FBI investigates alleged Rockstar game piracy

The FBI and the Department of Justice are investigating the Rockstar Games hacker. In case you somehow missed it which is undoubtedly the biggest game story of the year so far, featuring 90 videos Grand Theft Auto VI Online gameplay leaked The source code has been reported stolen. All of this came via a hacker who also claimed responsibility for a recent hack of Uber. Of course, some people suspected that the leak was original in the first place, but Take-Two Interactive began removing the footage from YouTube and Twitter with Rockstar Games later confirming that it was real. Some fear that this hack will have an impact on the development of GTA 6However, Rockstar emphasized that it will not have a long-term impact on game development at this time.

I’m out of Uber It stated that it was working with the FBI and the US Department of Justice on an investigation into the hacker. The ride-sharing company has acknowledged reports that the hacker claimed to be behind both the Rockstar Games and the Uber hack. As of now, Rockstar Games has not provided any additional information outside of its initial comment made on Monday morning.

“We believe this attacker (or attackers) belongs to a hacking group called $Lapsus, which has been increasingly active over the past year or so,” Uber said in a statement. “This group typically uses similar technologies to target tech companies, and in 2022 alone Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia and Okta, among others, among others. There were also reports over the weekend that this same actor hacked video game maker Rockstar Games. We We are coordinating closely with the FBI and the US Department of Justice on this matter and will continue to support their efforts.”

It remains to be seen if anything will come of this or not. Given the seriousness of these hacks, their impact on the stock prices of related companies, and more, the current and potential damage is no laughing matter. Rockstar Games has noticed that they will talk more about Grand Theft Auto VI Soon, but it’s unclear what the company defines as “soon”.
